දඟකාර ළමයි – චන්ද්‍ර අනගිරත්න

If you are a booklover since your childhood, I am pretty sure, you will not miss the name of Edith Nesbit. It is because she was an excellent writer who devoted her writing career for the enjoyment of children. Today I am bringing you the one of her interesting books, The Story of the Treasure Seekers. So in here, I read the Sinhala translation of Chandra Anagiratne.

The book tells the story of the six children of the Bastable family who lived in England. Their names are Dora, Oswald, Dicky, Alice, Noel and Horace Octavius (H.O.) between age eight to fourteen. After the death of the mother, the unfortunate period of the family dawned. Their father’s business gradually collapsed by affecting the family’s economy. He was always away from home doing business to rebuild the family and therefore children worried about the bad time. Their sole purpose of their hearts were to support their father by earning money and for this launched many plans. But the true factor is, most of the times, some plans are very ridiculous.

Treasure seeking was launched as their first plan, but they did not have a proper place for this. Therefore, selected their garden to dig up. But this ended up with next-door Albert being fall in to their treasure hole. On another times, they played everything from fierce gangsters to unselfish noble characters including the poets. At other times, they could earn few coins and called it as a Good Hunt!. In fact, when you read this book you’ll realize, if they succeeded their plans or the adult’s sympathy for their authenticity.

Children of Bastable family could bring me the enjoy and laugh. In one moment I wished, if I could be a sister for Bastable family. After reading this book, I realized one thing, children are authentic and their thoughts are innocent. The unity and the brotherhood are nicely highlighted by the writer

A few words about the translator, I can recommend the “දඟකාර ළමයි” as an another successful book of Chandra Anagiratne, which was translated into simple Sinhala language. 📚
